THE CASE IS WELL MADE SO AS TO PROTECT AND PROVIDE ORDER FOR THE BITS . I WAS VERY IMPRESSED BY MY PURCHASE OF THIS ITEM . EXCELLENT VALUE . NO WHERE ELSE COULD I FIND SUCH A REAL VALUE ITEM FOR WOODWORKERS . THE SET IS TOP DRAWER . THE SELECTION OF TYPE AND SCOPE OF THE BITS WAS QUITE LARGE . I WOULD GIVE THIS SET A GREAT BIG FIVE STARS . WINSTON : )
The bits can knock against each other, they're actually pretty difficult to get out of the foam at the angle they were placed, and some of the bits are so long they rub against the case.In general the product is of poor quality, however if the bits really are used only occasionally (I mean very infrequently), it can be a good deal. Another reason for 3 stars is the case.
At around $1.25 per bit, its a pretty good deal and includes every conceivable router bit, except exotic ones like raised panel or box joint. This set is a pretty nice set and is very complete for $100.
With gunk on only 2 of the 3 blades, it implies only 2 of the 3 blades are actually cutting, and the machining of the carbide was incorrect. But for general use, this does contain every bit you might want. The value for the quantity of bits is excellent, however I'm only giving it 3 stars for a few reasons: The machining of the bits is not very good.
For example after using the 3 flute straight bit in just a few feet of plywood, I noticed burn marks on the plywood and some gunk on 2 of the 3 flutes. It does a good job of holding all the bits in a single place, but its made of foam and thin aluminum.
Don't be tempted to think these bits will produce any high quality cuts, or that you will be able to use them for anything more regular than every few months.
If you are looking for the best router bits money can buy -- keep looking. However I've found those bits work well for my projects and you can not beat the price. If in the future I'll need a specific bit that is of the highest quality I'll buy it, but for now I'm very pleased with my purchase. Aluminum case is a bit flimsy, but it should be easy to build a box for the bit storage with no problems once the case falls apart -- so not a problem in my mind.
This product met my needs for an overall router set that will produce good quality results. All the routers in the set are in very sharp. The 1/2" shank keeps the bits stable for all my cuts, and as a result good accurate cuts.
I was actually surprised with the quality of the bits. This is good starter set when you do not know what you need. I am giving it 5 stars because you cannot find a better set for the price. When buying this set, I thought that after trying the bits out I would buy the professional quality bits to replace the most used bits in this set. After over a month of heavily using some of the bits they are still in a pretty good shape.
